I couldn't really find pictures before I went of what women you pass on the streets are wearing, which I wanted because I didn't want to completely stand out TOURIST. For safety reasons! And rather than post pictures of random people, I recreated some of the looks I saw on my favorite app/paper doll game Covet Fashion. My conclusion is:
1) sandals or sneakers
2) bright colors
3) leather handbag
4) sunglasses
5) minimalist gold jewelry.
Not that you should wear all that if your goal is safety, but that's what you'll be surrounded by. If you want to tour churches though, you're going to need pants or a long skirt to cover your knees and also a cardigan for your shoulders. Don't wear sweatpants.
Believe it when they say Europeans dress better than us. I also like bright colors, and it was so cool that that was fitting in. Also, the majority of the women were brunette!
Well, we were next to the Tamil cultural center
The bikini girl was at the beach obviously, not the opera house like the background suggests

So many brides. But I also got the impression (on the flight from Zurich) that Palermo is a place European tourists (and less so American tourists) like to go
Last page, Covet actually had a Sicily-inspired challenge after I got home, heehee
